Cerro Brujo

Cerro Brujo (Witch hill) - San Cristobal Island

Cerro Brujo is located on the north coast of San Cristobal Island. This visit takes approximately three hours, including a panga ride. Its main attraction is the coral sand beach, in addition to the myriad of species of flora and fauna. The hill is an eroded tuff cone, and It was formed by low-viscosity lava that contains little gas bubbles that break while solidifying and are pushed by lava that still flows from behind. The inhabitants of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno use to extract salt from the lake located on the hill to conserve cod, beef, and turtle. Today it is a place to observe the incredible views and the many coastal birds.

Cerro Brujo offers an excellent landscape from where you can see the León Dormido (Kicker Rock) geological formation, the south of the high part of San Cristobal and the coast bordering Cerro Brujo. There are two prominent halophytic plant species (Salicornia fructicosa and Scaevola plumieri), which characterize by being able to grow in soils with high salt content.
