Kicker Rock (or Leon Dormido as it´s known in Spanish) is the remnant of an eroded cone of an extinct volcano, towering over 140 meters tall (500 feet) above the water and located northwest of San Cristóbal Island. From the south, it looks like a sleeping lion, hence the Spanish name, and from the other side the shape resembles a boot, hence the name “kicker rock.” The rock is an excellent dive site, as it´s usual to spot Galapagos and White-tip Sharks, Large Rays, Reef fish, sea turtles and sea lions. Above the surface, the rock is populated by Tropical birds, Blue-footed boobies, and Frigatebirds.
