Sierra Negra volcano, one of the five shield volcanoes of Isabela Island, has the second largest volcanic caldera in the world and is one of the most active volcanoes in the Galapagos Islands, having had its most recent eruption in 2005. Together with its enormous crater, its lava fields and fumaroles, Sierra Negra present and unforgettable moon-like landscape. The only way to reach the rim of the crater is a rewarding hike from the base. Once on top, visitors can enjoy some of the best volcanic views of the world, as the lava fields and the nearby Volcan chico complete the landscape.
