“This is one of the best places for snorkeling. We saw so many animals and our guide knew how to explain everything about "Los tuneles". Sea turtles underwater were so friendly.” – Kelly, Australia.
Cabo Rosa is the result of lava platforms that collapsed into the sea, which created hundreds of lava tunnels and bridges of lava, above and below the water. The tunnels are a marine paradise and is a spectacular place to spot marine life while snorkeling in the clear waters surrounded by scenic lava formations of different colors and clear blue sky. The lava tunnels are home to many species such as white tip reef sharks, manta rays, seahorses, penguins, sea turtles, sea lions, giant mantas, colorful fish and blue-footed boobies.
These lava tunnels were formed millions of years ago when the lava flows from the volcanos on the island were solidified on the outside, thanks to their contact with the water, while remaining liquid on the inside, leaving the lava tunnels which have been eroded by the elements over thousands of years.

From the pier in Puerto Villamil, we will board a speedboat for an approximate one-hour journey to reach the Cabo Rosa lava tunnels, locally known as ‘The Tunnels’. These lava tunnels were formed millions of years ago when the lava flows from the volcanos on the island were solidified on the outside thanks to their contact with the water, while remaining liquid on the inside, leaving the lava tunnels which have been eroded by the elements over thousands of years.
Once we have arrived to our destination, we can snorkel (superficial diving) to admire the lava and coral formations and the animal life present, which includes Galapagos sharks, Galapagos penguins, sea lions, blue-footed bobbies, sea turtles and a great variety of tropical fish.
Afterwards, we will navigate a short distance to Finados, another snorkeling site where blue sharks, trumpet fish, surgeon fish, and with a little bit of luck, golden and eagle rays can be observed. After this activity, we will return to Puerto Villamil.

Landing Type: Wet.
Wildlife: Galapagos sharks, Galapagos penguins, sea lions, blue-footed booby, sea turtles and a great variety of tropical fishes, rays, sharks, and pelicans.

To participate in this tour, you must be at Isabela Island (Puerto Villamil) one day prior to departure. The itinerary might change due to regulations of the Galapagos National park or weather conditions.
Please consider that in order to protect the environment of the Galapagos Islands, the Government of Ecuador has banned the use of shopping plastic bags, plastic straws and polyethylene containers in the Archipelago. Visitors to the islands are not allowed to bring these objects with them. This measure is effective as of May 2018.
We thank you for collaboration in protecting the Galapagos pristine ecosystem.
